Our History

The story of Hoffman began in 1904, when Adon J. Hoffman—a skilled tailor—faced a challenge that would change the course of garment care. After sustaining an arm injury that made traditional ironing impossible, he applied his ingenuity to invent the first manual pressing machine. What started as a personal solution quickly became a transformative advancement for the industry.

A chance encounter during a rainstorm brought a visiting businessman to Hoffman’s shop. Recognizing the potential of the invention, he offered support to establish manufacturing capabilities. From that partnership, the Hoffman Pressing Machine Company was founded.

In 1964, Hoffman reached a pivotal milestone by merging with its primary competitor, the New Yorker Pressing Machine Company. This strategic union expanded the company’s capabilities and reinforced its leadership in the field.

In 2022, Hoffman New Yorker joined forces with UnityLab Corp, continuing its tradition of innovation and excellence, and ensuring its commitment to shaping the future of garment care worldwide.

Today, Hoffman and New Yorker proudly operate under the UnityLab umbrella, upholding a shared legacy of quality, reliability, and forward-thinking design. With more than a century of experience, we remain dedicated to serving the specialized needs of the apparel manufacturing, laundry, and dry-cleaning industries—delivering solutions defined by innovation, safety, and performance.
